Romans 6:16-23 “Slaves of Righteousness”

Romans 6:16-23 “Slaves of Righteousness”

This Sunday we were in Romans Chapter 6.

The following are some bullet points contained in the sermon!  Enjoy!

  • No man is captain of his own destiny.
    • We are all under the power of something.
    • Romans 6:16 says that as humans we are either slaves to sin or slaves to righteousness.
    • In the Garden of Eden, when Eve chose to eat the fruit she chose disobedience to God and obedience to sin.
    • Since then, every human being has been born into the slavery of sin. Sin leads to death and separation.
    • It affects all areas of your life, including your relationships.
  • But the good news of the Gospel is that we can now choose to present ourselves slaves to God.
    • When you commit your life to Christ and believe that He took the penalty of sin for you, you become a child of God, or as Paul calls it, a slave to righteousness.
    • What does that mean?
    • It means sin is no longer your boss or master.
  • As believers, we are free to live by faith.
    • And true faith results in obedience to God and His Word.
    • Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who love me and gave Himself for me.”
    • When Paul says we are free from sin, it doesn’t mean we no longer commit acts of sin, but the dominating power of sin has been broken.
  • If we lived as hard for God as we lived for our flesh, this world would be changed.
